Meeting on the future of our buses – Consett
As a bus user myself, I know how frustrating the current bus network can be.
As a constituency, we rely heavily on our buses. Blaydon and Consett has only one train station within Blaydon meaning that there are over 70,000 people relying on one option for public transport, buses.
Whether it is the 12 in Blaydon the V5 in Moorside or the 47 from Consett to Newcastle, the system is regularly plagued by poor reliability, slow timetables or routes that do not work for local people.
Mayor Kim McGuinness is changing that, through a change called bus franchising, it gives the North East Combined Authority a greater say on buses and finally brings the ‘public’ back to public transport.
