About Liz Twist MP

Liz Twist has lived in Blaydon Constituency for 19 years and has represented Ryton, Crookhill and Stella ward on Gateshead Council since 2012. Prior to her election to Parliament, Liz also served as a cabinet member of the Council, with the portfolio for housing. Locally, Liz has volunteered from a number of community groups and the Samaritan’s as a listener.

Widowed in 2000, Liz worked for UNISON’s Northern region for 12 years and was Regional Head of Health, speaking up on health policy issues and representing health workers. She also worked as a case worker in the office of Dave Anderson, the former MP for Blaydon.

Liz believes that the NHS, schools and other public services must be funded properly and that our local area also depends on successful businesses employing local people in well-paid, secure jobs.

Since her election in June 2017 Liz has served on the Communities, Housing and Local Government Committee, the Petitions and European Statutory Instruments Committees. In addition, Liz Chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Phenylketonuria (PKU), Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention and is Vice Chair of the Zero Carbon group. Liz is also an Opposition Whip.

Liz is a strong voice for the people of Blaydon in Parliament.
