In 2025, Liz Twist launched the first official Red Kite Awards for the constituency of Blaydon and Consett.
Liz created these awards to honour those across Blaydon and Consett, who selflessly donate their time and energy to supporting out communities.
Named due to the constituency stretching across the whole of the Derwent Valley, the awards are a ceremony of thanks, with Liz giving her gratitude to everyone who has gone the extra mile over the last year, the unsung heroes who help make every day a little brighter.
Liz Twist said:
“I’ve always been active within this space. Before I was a Member of Parliament, I was a local councillor in Ryton and worked with local people to help set up great organisations such as Brighten Ryton, it has stayed with me how special that energy is, a collective group working to better a community.
I’m proud that the Red Kite Awards will seek to acknowledge everyone across Blaydon and Consett working to make life better for local people.”
Nominations will close Monday 26 October and you can nominate a person or organisation for a Red Kite Award by clicking below.
